Glossary of Printing Terminology

Originals / Copies

When we give you a quote, we refer to your originals and your copies. Originals can often be miscounted if they are double-sided.

'Number of originals' means the number of A4 (or A3), pages that you want to have copied. Thus one double-sided piece of paper equals two originals. Number of copies' is the number of finished documents you would like us to produce.

Paper Sizes

Here is a brief overview of standard paper sizes.

At CopyNZ Print, the largest we can copy is A3 and the largest we laminate is A1.

About Paper Thickness

Paper is measured for thickness in grams per square meter. A normal piece of photocopying paper is 80 gsm. One normal piece of paper measuring 1 meter by 1 meter will weigh 80 grams. If paper is thicker, it weighs more. 100 gsm paper is slightly thicker than 80 gsm paper. 120 is a good thickness if you have a double sided document and don't want to see the typing on the other side. CopyNZ Print photocopiers can photocopy onto a maximum of 250gsm. We can fold 120gsm and thicker on our folder. Below that, we manually fold each item.
